Watch | Monkey Disrupts Census 2026 Training Workshop in Gujarat
May 22, 2026
Surat: A government training workshop for India’s Census 2026 in Gujarat witnessed an unusual disruption after a wild monkey entered the auditorium during the session.
The indoor workshop was attended by staffers from various government departments, including civic body employees and teachers, who were being trained for upcoming census duties.
During the session, the monkey quietly sneaked into the auditorium and perched itself on the headrest of a chair occupied by a woman staffer. To avoid provoking the animal, the woman remained completely still without making any sudden movement.
In another viral clip from the venue, the monkey was seen sitting on the armrest of a chair in the next row while another woman attendee cautiously avoided eye contact and limited her movement.
Amid the situation, a government official addressing the gathering from the microphone remarked that census staff could face similar situations involving stray dogs or monkeys during door-to-door field visits.
As the monkey continued to remain inside the auditorium, officials later announced a plan to calmly evacuate attendees row by row from the back side of the hall until the situation was handled.
Participants were then seen peacefully walking out one by one, while the monkey remained seated at the same spot inside the auditorium.
