Mumbai Rains Disrupt Air Travel; Two Flights Diverted to Ahmedabad Airport

Ahmedabad: Heavy rain in Mumbai continued to disrupt flight operations on Monday, forcing two Mumbai-bound flights to divert to the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) Airport in the city.

A Singapore–Mumbai flight landed in Ahmedabad at around 2:10 pm and resumed its journey at 3:25 pm after weather conditions improved. An Akasa Air flight from Delhi to Mumbai was also diverted to Ahmedabad before departing for Mumbai later in the evening.

Airport officials said that the expansion of hangar facilities at SVPI Airport in recent years has improved its ability to handle diverted aircraft without affecting regular flight operations.

Meanwhile, two flights to and from Ahmedabad were also cancelled on Monday due to inclement weather, while 10 others were delayed by one to two-and-a-half hours.

The cancelled services included an Ahmedabad–Mumbai flight and a Bengaluru–Ahmedabad flight. According to airport sources, several other domestic flights operating to and from Mumbai, Hyderabad, Nanded and Jalgaon also experienced delays due to adverse weather conditions. DeshGujarat
