IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Heavy Rain in Parts of Gujarat for the Next 24 Hours

Ahmedabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in various parts of Gujarat for the next 24 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for six districts of the state and has advised citizens to remain alert.

According to the IMD’s bulletin, there is a possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara and Chhota Udepur districts of Gujarat during the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for these districts.

Furthermore, a yellow warning has also been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and surface winds of 40-50 kmph, accompanied by light to moderate rain in the districts of Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Botad, as well as in Diu today.

Keeping in mind the yellow alert, the Meteorological Department has warned of some potential impacts:

• Low-lying areas may be flooded and dirt roads may be damaged.

• Traffic may be disrupted due to waterlogging in underpasses in urban areas.

• There is a risk of road accidents due to reduced visibility during heavy rain.

• The administration has been advised to effectively regulate traffic, and people have been advised to stay away from waterlogged areas.

Forecast for the coming days

On June 20, rain is likely in Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts, as well as in Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. In Saurashtra, rain is also likely in Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath districts, along with Diu.

On June 21 and 22, isolated places in Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari and Valsad districts, as well as in Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, may receive rainfall. In Saurashtra, isolated rainfall is also likely in Amreli, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath districts, along with Diu.

From June 23 to 25, the weather is likely to remain dry in most parts of North Gujarat, while rainy conditions are expected to continue in Surat, Navsari and Valsad districts, as well as in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu in South Gujarat.

Furthermore, no major change in the maximum temperature is expected across the state during the next seven days. The maximum temperature in Ahmedabad is likely to remain around 41°C. DeshGujarat
