Centre Revises Passport Fees, New Charges to Take Effect from July 1
June 25, 2026
New Delhi: The Central Government has notified amendments to the Passport Rules, 1980, revising the fees for passports and other travel-related documents. The revised charges will come into effect from July 1, 2026, under the Passport (Amendment) Rules, 2026.
Under the revised fee structure, applicants aged 18 years and above will have to pay Rs 2,500 for a new or reissued 36-page ordinary passport under the normal scheme, while the fee under the Tatkaal (immediate) scheme has been fixed at Rs 5,000. For a 60-page passport, the normal fee will be Rs 3,500 and the Tatkaal fee Rs 6,000.
In case of a lost or damaged passport, a duplicate 36-page passport will cost Rs 5,000 under the normal scheme and Rs 7,500 under Tatkaal. For a 60-page duplicate passport, the revised fees are Rs 6,000 and Rs 8,500, respectively.
For applicants below 18 years of age, the fee for a new or reissued 36-page passport has been fixed at Rs 1,750 under the normal scheme and Rs 4,250 under Tatkaal. If a minor’s passport is lost or damaged, the replacement passport will cost Rs 4,250 under the normal scheme and Rs 6,750 under the immediate service.
The notification also states that no fee will be charged for issuing an Emergency Certificate in India. However, applicants seeking the certificate abroad will have to pay US$15. The fee for an Identity Certificate has been set at Rs 1,000, while services such as the Police Clearance Certificate (PCC), Surrender Certificate, Global Entry Program Verification and other miscellaneous certificates will attract a fee of Rs 750.
The government has reiterated that passports issued to adults will remain valid for up to 10 years. Passports issued to minors will be valid for five years or until they attain the age of 18 years, whichever is earlier.
Children up to eight years of age and senior citizens above 60 years will continue to receive a 10 per cent concession on the fee for a fresh passport application. The concession, however, will not apply to passport reissuance.
The revised fee schedule replaces Schedule IV of the Passport Rules, 1980, and will be effective from July 1, 2026. DeshGujarat
