PDEU, QpiAI ink MoU to Set Up Rs 25 Crore Quantum Computing Centre of Excellence

Ahmedabad: Pandit Deendayal Energy University (PDEU) and QpiAI on Monday signed an MoU to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in quantum computing, which the company said would be the first such initiative in western India. The centre is aimed at strengthening research, training and applications in quantum computing.

The CoE, to be developed at a cost of Rs 25 crore, will house an on-campus 8-qubit superconducting quantum computing facility in line with the objectives of the National Quantum Mission, officials said.

Dr Nagendra Nagaraja, CEO and MD of QpiAI, said the version of the facility being established at PDEU will be called ‘QVidya’. Students and researchers will work alongside quantum computing scientists to address real-world problems and explore applications of the technology.

The lab will have a software stack, libraries, optimisation, and materials related to the computing technology.

Prof S S Manoharan, director general of PDEU, said the university plans to use quantum computing applications for research in areas including renewable energy, green hydrogen, advanced energy materials, batteries and energy storage.

The MoU was announced during the SEQUENCE 2026 event, which featured tracks on semiconductors, quantum computing, energy, climate action and the environment. DeshGujarat
