Speaking at the function Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said, “Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts are relevant even today, and solution of various problems that the nation and the entire world is facing today can be achieved from Gandhian thoughts only.”

“Gandhi believed that India could be made powerful only keeping its soul intact,” Modi said.

“The Government of Gujarat is today walking on the path of Gandhian ideals,” Modi added.

Modi said Gandhi had a dream to see lock on leprosy hospital door. He said, “Gujarat government has shut down leprosy hospital in Ahmedabad and has achieved the dream of Mahatma about elimination of leprosy. Gujarat Government is better in practice of Gandhian ideology rather than those who always just talk about it. If the regime is powered by political will, it can realize Gandhi’s dreams, Gujarat government has proved this. Gujarat Government’s actions in the area of promotion of Khadi, 24-hour electricity supply to all villages, unopposed election of 45% Gram Panchayat bodies, water conservation, Shramyogi scheme for the last person in society are some examples of how Gujarat government has put Gandhian ideology in practice successfully.”

RSS Sarsanghchalak Shri Mohan Bhagawat in his speech said that Gandhi’s entire Chintan(brainstorming process) was rooted in Hindustan’s land, Hindustan’s culture, Hindustan’s ethics, and Dharma. Gandhi’s Swaraj was not only about political swaraj but it was about for Independence of each person.
