Gujarat Congress President Arjun Modhwadia and state Congress’s campaign committee head Shankersinh Vaghela were detained by police in Gandhinagar while attempting to march to Gujarat Assembly with other party workers violating the notification.

Soon after their farmers rally, Gujarat Congress President Modhwadia and former CM Shankersinh Vaghela led a march to Gujarat assembly with party workers. They were prevented to enter beyond Gh-3 Pathikashram and were detained. Police lobbed few tear gas shells and used light lathicharge to prevent the rally to enter beyond permitted point.

Modhwadia said that he along with other Congress workers wanted to give a 12-point memorandum to the CM, but they were detained without any provocation.

Meanwhile in Gujarat assembly, the Congress MLAs shouted slogans during Governor’s address. The Congress members got angry and stood up when Governor used the word ‘Sadbhavana’ in her speech. As Congress members started shouting slogans ‘Jawab do hisaab do’ the Governor shortened her address.

In her address Governor Dr. Kamla Beniwal praised the state government on number of fronts including state’s employment situation, industrial development, higher literacy rate and income of minority communities among others.

12 point memorandum of Gujarat Congress on farmers related issues:

-In dark zone areas, industrial houses and builders are given power connection for lifting underground water, but farmers are denied connections since 2003. Govt should immediately resume power connections in farm sector in dark zone areas.

-In non-dark zone areas, five lakh power connections in farm sector are pending. Waiting list must be cleared immediately.

-Govt should abolish the meter system in agriculture sector.

-In last decade, there has been 2.5 time increase in power tariff which should be rolled back.

-Farmers who live inside the farm should get single phase power connection again for home usage.

-4% VAT on chemical fertilizer should be abolished.

-Tariff hike in rates of irrigation water should be abolished.

-landless farm labors should get 100 vaar plots for free as per the scheme the Congress govt had started. The scheme was discontinued by the BJP govt.
