5,000 Congress workers/supporters join BJP in Mahesana

Mahesana

As a ‘new year gift’ of sorts to the beleaguered BJP in Patel dominant Mahesana district, around 5000 Congressmen, mostly from the OBC community, today joined the ruling party here in the presence of senior minister Nitin Patel.

The list of Congressmen joining the BJP bandwagon included Jaswantsinh Dabhi, the former leader of opposition in Kadi Taluka Panchayat, the home area of the minister who is also the in-charge of the district.

Mr. Patel said that most of those joining the BJP belonged to the seven villages of Kadi and Jotana talukas.

‘Most of those who joined our party today belonged to the OBC category and this step will further strengthen the BJP,’ he claimed.

Mr. Dabhi on the occasion said that he and his supporters joined the ruling party as they believe that the BJP was for the all round development. He claimed that the party would emerge victorious in all the wards of Kadi taluka panchayat.

The development was being seen as a respite for the BJP in Mahesana, the earlier stronghold of the party which has seemingly slipped out of hand after the hostile Patel or Patidar reservation stir. The ruling party was facing a big embarrassment in the district as it could not find even a single candidate in Unjha municipality owing to the opposition from the Patel community.
