New Delhi
As it happens in a trial court routinely, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi mother-son who are Congress president and vice president respectively got bail today within minutes of their appearance in court in National Herald case.
All other accused including Motilal Vora, Oscar Fernandes and Suman Dubey were also granted bail.
‘The accused sought bail and got it. Swamy’s plea for conditions to restrict the accused for travel abroad was rejected. No conditions have been imposed for bail except for furnishing of surety,’ said senior advocate Kapil Sibal outside the court.
Court gave Sonia and Rahul bail on personal bond of Rs 50,000 each and one surety each. AK Antony signed surety for Sonia Gandhi while Priyanka Vadra signed surety for Sonia Gandhi. Magistrate observed that Sonia and Rahul are reputed people having deep political grass root and there’s no apprehension that they will not plea away.
Sonia and Rahul didn’t ask for exemption from personal appearance for the next hearing on 20th February. The court granted no exemptions. All accused will therefore need to present on February 20th. Accused Sam Pitroda was exempted from appearance on medical grounds.
Congress workers meanwhile raised slogans in support of Sonia and Rahul Gandhi at party headquarters.
