22 Taluka Panchayats where BJP and Congress have equal members

Gandhinagar

While elections for Taluka Panchayat president-vice presidents are being held today, it is interesting to note that there are total 22 Taluka Panchayat bodies where both main parties BJP and Congress have got equal number of victorious candidates.

They are Detroj, Viramgam, Dholka, Dholera, Satlasna, Kadi, Bodeli, Santalpur, Jafrabad, Malpur, Kadana, Galteshwar, Mahuva, Nizar, Bharuch, Jambusar, Limbdi, Taranpur, Fatepura, Zalod, Gir Gadhada and Jamkandorna.

Of them, in 7 Taluka Panchayats namely Dholera, Satlasna, Kadi, Malpur, Kadana, Zalod and Girgadhada, others or independents are decisive, while rest of Taluka Panchayats have 100% members elected from BJP and Congress and they are equal.

If in any Taluka Panchayat, after the election of president and vice president if equal number of votes are found in favor of candidates of both parties, then chit is picked up by a child to decide who would rule the panchayat body. The problem in such cases arise later when budget has to be passed. If ruling party moves budget proposal and it fails to pass it then crisis do occur in such body. In such cases the officials enjoy more power.
