BJP and Congress both had got equal number of seats (9-9 each) in 18-member Dang district panchayat in election early this month.
Yesterday during voting to elect the President and Vice President of district panchayat in presence of district collector, Congress member Manishaben Gangoda remained absent. This resulted into 8 votes for Congress candidate Lalbhai Gavit against 9 votes to BJP candidate Baburao Chaurya for the post of President and similarly result in election for the post of Vice President.
Congress member Manishaben had gone underground for last few days ahead of the election for the posts of President and Vice President.
Congress was hoping to secure its victory by roping in BJP candidate Suresh Chaudhary who had been elected unopposed from Talkipada seat. Monday afternoon when BJP incharge was taking Suresh Chaudhary to unidentified place, a group of Congress party supporters allegedly hit the car in Ghoghli ghat near Ahva and attempted physical attack. No police complaint has been filed in this regard.
