CBI on Wednesday raided the premises of M Krishnaswamy, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, claiming that he had amassed properties worth over Rs six crore disproportionate to the known sources of his income.
CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) sources said a case has been registered against Krishnaswamy, a Commissioner Income Tax ranked-officer of 1988 batch presently posted as Director (Investigation) at Settlement Commission, Chennai, and eight others for possession of disproportionate assets.
“The other accused had allegedly abetted him in commission of said offence. It was further alleged that the public servant had acquired huge assets in the name of his immediate family members and benami holders at Chennai and various other places in Tamil Nadu including at his native village near Palani (Tamil Nadu),” CBI spokesperson said here.
The sources claimed the officer had allegedly invested in ‘benami’ properties and some investments in movie business through proxies.
The officer and his family were in possession of assets to the tune of Rs 6.1 crore, the sources claimed.
They said searches were carried out at 14 places at Chennai, Palani and other places in Tamil Nadu in connection with the case.
