Dharoi dam filled at possible full level, due to aging more storage not possible
September 03, 2016
Ahmedabad: After many years, the level of water at Dharoi dam has crossed the 620 ft mark this year against maximum level of 622 ft. The present storage in the dam is 26,446 million square ft against its storage capacity of 28,716 million square ft.
Therefore the percentage of storage in the dam is over 92%. The dam was build before four and half decades back and therefore it is too old. Therefore further storage is not possible even when the inflow is continuing at present.
Citing the situation of old-age of the dam and situation of canals in downstream, it is difficult to store water upto maximum level of 622 ft and therefore 17,000 cusec inflow is being allowed to pass on to downstream.
