Gujarat Congress MLA hand over resignation to party; threatens to resign from State assembly

Ahmedabad: Imran Khedawala, Congress MLA from Jamalpur – Khadia assembly seat in the city today said he has handed over his resignation to Gujarat Congress chief.

Khedawala said he made representation before party high command over party mandates ‘wrongly’ given to Taslim Tirmizi and Nazma Rangrej in Baherampura ward of city for Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) election, scheduled to take place later this month.

Khedawala said he is firm and determined to resign from the State assembly if this issue of giving mandate to two persons is not resolved.

He said the party earlier gave mandate to four party workers which was fine, but later the party gave mandate to two more party workers which has created completely unwarranted situation. He said, the four candidates declared earlier should only contest for party and not the fresh two who were given mandate later unnecessarily. He said he had asked party to explain how and why this happened.

Sources in Congress party said, the issue will be resolved before the final date of withdrawal of nominations.

Khedawala meanwhile said he would take back his resignation if two candidates who were given mandate later withdraw their nominations. He said he would go to State Assembly Speaker and tender his resignation from the State assembly if this doesn’t happen.
