VMC Starts Creating Access Points and Slopes to Execute the Viswhamitri River Project
January 04, 2025
Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has officially begun pre-project works on the ambitious Vishwamitri River Project, a critical initiative aimed at increasing the river’s carrying capacity and mitigating the frequent flooding that disrupts the city and the district during the monsoon season.
In response to the recurring floods, the VMC has as a pre-project procedure moved a fleet of 10 Pokland machines to the site to create the necessary slopes and access points along the riverbanks. This preliminary work is essential to prepare for the full-scale excavation, which will eventually involve over 300 machines to widen and deepen the riverbed.
The primary objective of the project is to enhance the Vishwamitri River’s capacity to carry water, especially during heavy rainfall, thus reducing the risk of flood-related damage. Over the past four days, the VMC has created slopes at 12 locations, covering a stretch of 23 kilometers between Dena to Maretha. These slopes will facilitate vehicular movement for future operations.
“The creation of slopes will ensure smoother access for the large machinery that will be used for excavation after the Government gives nod for Vishwamitri Project and required approvals are obtained,” said an VMC official. DeshGujarat
