Ahmedabad: A 37-year-old businessman from Thaltej and his partners were allegedly cheated of about ₹64 crore in a real estate fraud, following a complaint filed with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch.

According to the complaint, Mayur Thakkar, who is involved in angadia and land dealings, was introduced to a man claiming to own prime land parcels in Sola and nearby areas. In 2021, the accused allegedly convinced the group to invest in a land deal worth over ₹56 crore, assuring clear title and quick documentation, and collected large payments in cash in multiple instalments.

Police said the deal was repeatedly delayed and the accused later offered alternative land parcels and flats instead of executing the original agreement. The complainant alleged that around ₹64 crore was paid in cash along with additional bank transfers, but a substantial amount remains unpaid.

The probe revealed that some documents and payment vouchers shown to investors were allegedly forged, and the promised sale deeds were never executed. Police have registered a case of cheating, criminal breach of trust and forgery under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against three accused Mitesh Patel, Moksha Mitesh Patel, and Pratik Bharat Patel in the case, in which about ₹41 crore remains unpaid.
