Coal India Commissions 100 MW Solar Power Plant in North Gujarat

Banaskantha: State-owned Coal India Ltd (CIL) on Tuesday announced the commissioning of a 100 MW solar power project in Bhadramali village of Deesa taluka, marking a significant step in its renewable energy expansion.

In a regulatory filing to the BSE, CIL stated that it had received the commissioning certificate from the Gujarat Energy Development Agency (GEDA) for the 100 MW solar power plant in Gujarat, effective March 31, 2026.

A Maharatna PSU under the Ministry of Coal, CIL has been steadily increasing its focus on renewable energy. The company currently contributes more than 80 per cent of India’s domestic coal production.

In December, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) had flagged delays in the development of CIL’s targeted 3,000 MW solar capacity, noting that only 122.492 MW, around 4.08 per cent of the goal, had been installed as of December 2024. DeshGujarat
