Unseasonal Rain Hits Parts of Gujarat

Dahod: Unseasonal rain and thunderstorms lashed parts of Gujarat early Tuesday, bringing sudden weather changes and raising concerns among farmers, even as major cities continued to face intense heat.

Early morning showers, accompanied by strong winds, were reported in Dahod, Aravalli, and Mahisagar districts. In Dahod, heavy rain along with thunder and dust storms hit the Fatepura region, leaving roads waterlogged and disrupting daily movement.

In Aravalli, areas such as Meghraj, Modasa, Malpur, and Shamlaji received unseasonal rain. While the showers brought a brief drop in temperature, farmers expressed concern over possible crop damage. Similarly, rainfall was reported in Mahisagar’s Kadana taluka and nearby villages along the Rajasthan border, including Ghodar and Jogan.

In contrast, cities like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Rajkot continued to reel under a heatwave, with temperatures crossing 40°C. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has issued a Yellow Alert for the next six days, with temperatures likely to touch 42°C. Across the state, at least five major cities recorded temperatures above 40°C despite a slight dip of 1–2 degrees in some areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, the current weather pattern is due to three active cyclonic circulation systems over Gujarat and Rajasthan, which have altered wind directions. A Western Disturbance is also contributing to increased humidity and uncomfortable conditions, especially in coastal regions.

The department has forecast largely dry weather across Gujarat over the next 10 days. However, coastal areas of Saurashtra and Kutch may experience hot and humid winds on May 6 and 7, with heatwave conditions likely in parts of North and South Gujarat. High humidity levels are expected to persist until May 9–10, offering little relief from the ongoing heat. DeshGujarat
