₹547 Crore Hospital, Hostels and Research Facilities to Come Up at Ahmedabad Air India Crash Site

Ahmedabad: Today marks the one-year anniversary of the Air India plane crash in the city, which claimed the lives of over 250 people and damaged the hostel building in the Civil Hospital campus. Now, the state government has decided to construct a modern hospital and hostel by removing the damaged buildings at the New Mental Campus located in Meghaninagar.

In this regard, Minister of State for Health Praful Pansheriya said that “after the tragic plane crash, immediate accommodation and food arrangements were made for the affected students and their families. Now, the State Government has resolved to develop the entire area as a modern health temple and education temple.”

The following new projects will be taken up by removing the buildings damaged in the plane crash at the New Mental Campus:

Main Plan

✅ Paraplegia and Spine Hospital, Rehabilitation Center, Physiotherapy College and Hostel for 500 students

Estimated Cost: Rs. 295 crore

Approximately 25,000 sq.m. of land will be used.

✅ New hostel blocks for married PG students with 510 units, G+7 height, approximately 8 blocks

Estimated Cost: Rs. 192 crore

✅ Modern canteen building for 800 students, new construction of G+1 floor

Estimated Cost: Rs. 10 crore

✅ New Food and Drugs Laboratory, NABL-standard G+7 building, modern laboratory

Estimated Cost: Rs. 50 crore and approximately 3,100 sq.m. of land will be used for the project.

After completion of these projects, the New Mental Campus will be developed as a leading health, research and medical education centre in the state, providing modern facilities to students, healthcare workers and the general public, the government said in a press release. DeshGujarat
