Ahmedabad City Logistics Plan Released; Rs 12,315 Crore Project to Ease Traffic, Boost Freight Movement
June 29, 2026
Vadodara: The book Ahmedabad City Logistics Plan (CLP), prepared for the future logistics development of Ahmedabad city, was released by Union Cabinet Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during the ‘Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference-Central Gujarat’ that began today in Vadodara.
As per a press release, the main objective of the Ahmedabad City Logistics Plan is to make the transportation of goods in the city more efficient, well-organized, environmentally friendly, and future-oriented. This plan has been prepared in line with the National Logistics Policy of the Government of India and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The plan covers the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) area, Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) area, and the surrounding region by preparing a detailed roadmap keeping future urban development in mind.
Ahmedabad, a leading industrial and commercial hub of Gujarat, is facing increasing freight traffic, resulting in traffic congestion, a shortage of logistics parking, inadequate godown and warehouse facilities, last-mile connectivity issues, and environmental challenges. As per the base year 2024-25, approximately 289.5 million tonnes of freight is transported in Ahmedabad city, of which approximately 92% is transported by road.
To effectively address these challenges, a three-tier logistics system has been proposed under the City Logistics Plan. In the first phase, a Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) and Transport Nagar will be developed outside the city. In the second phase, a well-organized system for the distribution of goods within the city will be created through Urban Logistics Consolidation & Distribution Centres (ULCDC). In the third phase, last-mile connectivity will be made faster and more environmentally friendly through electric and small vehicles operating from Micro Delivery Hubs.
The scheme includes important projects such as Western and Eastern Bypass Roads, Dedicated Freight Lanes, Regional Ring Road, a Modern Traffic Management System, Logistics Parking Facilities, Warehouses, Cold Storage, redevelopment of APMC, a Low Emission Zone (LEZ), charging infrastructure to promote the maximum use of electric vehicles, and an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) across the city by 2047.
It is proposed to develop one Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP), five Urban Logistics Consolidation & Distribution Centres (ULCDC), 14 Micro Delivery Hubs, 13 Logistics Parking Areas (with a total parking capacity of 6,352 vehicles), 18 Warehouses, and 29 Cold Storages. An estimated investment of Rs. 12,315 crore will be made for the implementation of the entire scheme, which will be executed in three phases during 2025-30, 2030-35, and 2035-47.
The implementation of this scheme will involve the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, AUDA, the Government of Gujarat, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), as well as private sector participation through the PPP model. With the implementation of this scheme, there will be a significant reduction in traffic congestion in the city, improved efficiency in goods transportation, lower logistics costs, reduced pollution, and further promotion of industry and trade.
