Gujarat Govt Hikes Commission for Fair Price Shop Owners; Over 17,000 to Benefit

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has increased the commission paid to fair price shop operators for the distribution of wheat and rice to beneficiaries under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Household (PHH) categories covered by the National Food Security Act, 2013.

According to a resolution issued by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, the commission paid to fair price shop operators has been increased by Rs. 35, from Rs. 150 per quintal to Rs. 185 per quintal.

The decision will directly benefit more than 17,000 ration shop operators across the state. The revised commission will be applicable from April 1, 2026.

The state government has allocated Rs. 67.20 crore for the commission hike, according to the department’s resolution.

Fair price shop operators had sought additional financial support due to rising transportation, labour, maintenance and other operational costs. The government said the increased commission is expected to strengthen the public distribution system and ensure smoother distribution of foodgrains to crores of eligible families under the National Food Security Act.

As per the resolution, of the Rs. 67.20 crore allocated for the enhanced commission, Rs. 52.61 crore will be spent under the General Category, Rs. 4.11 crore under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP), and Rs. 10.48 crore under the Tribal Area Sub-Plan (TASP). DeshGujarat
