Gujarati is India’s Chemical industries Giant. Figures say that. Gujarat contributes India’s 51.4 (more than half) percent of chemical output.
And Gujarat continues to lead the chemical sector; accounting for 27% of India’s investments in the sector; Of the 812 projets announced across India till December 2007, 178 were in Gujarat, with a total investment of Rs. 1,07,440 crore. Gujarat has outnumbered other states in terms of number of projects as well as the amount invested.
The chemical sector includes drugs and pharmaceuticals, petroleum products, fertilizers, dyes, organic and inorganic chemicals.
Availability of raw material is one of the major factor responsible in catching the attention of the investors. Gujarat is self sufficient in salt and chemicals such as acetic acid, phenol, methanol, formaldehyde, caustic soda, and soda ash which are used as raw materials in dyes, paints and pigments, pharmaceuticals and pesticides industries. The chemical sector is also export oriented and Gujarat has ports in the vicinity to meet this end. Dahej port near Bharuch is exclusively a chemical port.
ગુજરાત એ ભારતનું કેમીકલ જાયન્ટ સ્ટેટ છે. આંકડા જ જોઈ લો ને ? ભારતનુ અર્ધાથી વધુ કેમીકલ ઉત્પાદન ગુજરાતમાં થાય છે. અને ગુજરાતે આ પ્રગતિ જારી રાખી છે. પાછલા વર્ષના ડિસેમ્બર સુધીના કેમીકલ ક્ષેત્રે ભારતમાં થયેલા કુલ મૂડીરોકાણ પૈકીનુ ૨૭ ટકા રોકાણ માત્ર ગુજરાતમાં થયુ છે. ભારતમાં કેમીકલ ક્ષેત્રે મૂડીરોકાણ માટે જાહેર થયેલા કુલ ૮૧૨ પ્રોજેક્ટો પૈકીના ૧૭૮ ગુજરાતમાં જાહેર થયા છે. કેમીકલ ક્ષેત્રની આ ગણતરીમાં દવાઓ, ફાર્માસ્યુટીકલ્સ, પેટ્રોલીયમ પેદાશો, ખાતર, ડાઈઝ, ઓર્ગેનીક અને ઈનઓર્ગેનીક પેદાશોનો સમાવેશ થાય છે. રો મટીરીયલ પ્રાપ્ત હોવુ એ કેમીકલ ઈન્ડસ્ટ્રીમાં રોકાણ માટેની સૌથી મહત્વની પૂર્વ શરત હોય છે. ગુજરાતમાં મીઠુ, એસીટીક એસિડ, ફીનોલ, મેથેનોલ, ફોર્મલ્ડીહાઈડ, કોસ્ટીક સોડા, સોડા એશ ઘર આંગણે ઉપલબ્ધ છે જે ડાઈઝ, પેન્ટ, પીગમેન્ટ, દવાઓ અને જંતુનાશક દ્રવ્યો બનાવવા માટેના કાચા માલ છે. વળી કેમીકલ ઈન્ડસ્ટ્રીમાં નિકાસનું પણ પોતાનું મહત્વ છે. ગુજરાત દરિયાકિનારો ધરાવતુ અને સારા બંદર ધરાવતુ રાજ્ય હોવાના કારણે પણ ઈન્ડસ્ટ્રીઓને મૂડીરોકાણ કરવા માટે આ જમા પાસુ લાગે છે. દહેજ ખાતે તો ખાસ કેમીકલ પોર્ટ પણ બનાવવામાં આવ્યું છે.
