According to highly placed sources in Gandhinagar’s secretariat, Gujarat’s Narendra Modi government is going to celebrate the state level Republic day function in central Gujarat’s Godhra town next year.

Bonanzas are for sure

Godhra is sure to get a bonanza of various district level developmental projects on and before the 26th of January. Local city bus project is going to be one of them. Godhra had local city bus service run by the State Transport department way back before some years but the service couldn’t survive after Diesel price increase. Now it is planned that the Chief Minister would inaugurate a new local bus service on 26th of January. Godhra’s local administration has already issued tenders for this.

Modi style celebration

Before Modi, the government of Gujarat used to organize state level functions of 26 January and 15 August in the capital town Gandhinagar only but when came to power Modi decentralized these functions and started organizing them to his choice of district in the state.

Numerous district level inaugurations, announcement of new district level development projects, district level press conference by the senior state minister, illumination of government buildings, massive cleanliness drive fueled by added Municipal workforce procured from the cities like Ahmedabad, Gala district level cultural function highlighting district’s pride, Chief Minister’s night stay in district headquarter, Chief Minister’s dinner with local leading people etc usually become part of such functions.

Something Political about it

In last one year Modi has tactfully selected Congress dominated districts to organize such state level grand functions. Modi selected Vyara to celebrate 26 January function in 2008. Christian Missionary affected Vyara falls under Congress Loksabha MP’s constituency. Modi selected Amreli to celebrate 1st May Gujarat day function this year. Amreli Loksabha seat is occupied by Congress MP. Modi selected Palanpur to celebrate 15 August function. Palanpur falls under Banaskantha Loksabha constituency where Congress rules.

Next year is going to be a Loksabha election year and just before the crucial Loksabha elections Modi has chosen Godhra for the state level Republic day function. Though Godhra Loksabha constituency is occupied by the BJP, in 2009 election the fight is going to be tougher as Union Textile Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela is preparing to contest from here. Godhra falls in a central Gujarat area where BJP significantly lost several assembly seats in last year’s elections including Godhra town.

Modi a master strategist has aimed to win all the 26 Loksabha seats of Gujarat in 2009 to make LK Advani, India’s Prime Minister.
