Computerized networked police stations project starts in Gujarat
Gandhinagar, 24 May, 2009
The Gujarat government intends to implement — Home Department Integrated Information Total Solution (HD-IITS) — in all police stations of Gujarat in a phased-manner.
A pilot project for trial run was launched at Dabhoda police station in Gandhinagar district this week.
Under the Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) designed, HD-IITS project, administrative and law and order related work of police stations in the state will be done online. The DGP, DSP, DIG (Range) and senior Home Department officials will have an easy online access to all relevant data of HD-IITS connected police stations through State Data Centre server for direct monitoring. Top cops will be able to track the status if investigation in a particular case through this system. Even common people would get status of their complaints online.
Presently, when police station needs a list of suspects, it sends a related file to the Modus Operandi Bureau (MOB) located at the State Crime Records Bureau based in Gujarat State Police Headquarter, Gandhinagar. The process usually takes 15-25 days for the MOB to respond to the file but once the new online system is in place, police stations in any part of the state can have the names of suspects from the MOB by just clicking the mouse.
