Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi entered into the Page 3 circuit by participating in Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty(Kundra) and Raj Kundra’s lavish reception at the Graydn Hyatt, Mumbai on Tuesday evening according to reports.
Switching different roles in one day, Modi inaugurated CEPT University’s international conference in the morning, went to surprise inspection of government run rural school in the afternoon and then went to Mumbai to participate in Shilpa Shetty’s wedding party in the evening.
The impressive guest list in the party included Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai, Shahrukh Khan and his wife Gauri. Hrithik Roshan and Sussanne Roshan, Rani Mukherjee, Zyed Khan, Sunil Shetty, Fardeen Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Sameera Reddy, Amisha Patel, Kangana Ranaut, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Manish Malhotra, Karan Johar, Vivek Oberoi, Govinda with his daughter and wife, Rekha and Jaya Pradha, Javed Akhtar and Shabana Aazmi, Tanaz Irani with her daughter among others. IPL boss Lalit Modi and ‘Page 3 Praful’ aka Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel were also present in the party.
The menu included a selection of Indian, Western (Italian) and Asian (Thai and Chinese) cuisine served at live counters. The big attraction of the evening was the nine-tier wedding cake weighing over 80 kgs consisting of chocolate, candied fruits, fruit peels and nuts. The decoration chosen by Shilpa and her sister Shamita Shetty, consisted of flowers and butterflies. RDB and Rishi Rich performed free of cost during the reception.
Modi was invited to Shilpa’s wedding also but he couldn’t make it. However he called her on phone and wished her for her weddings and also apologized for not to be able to come. Modi reportedly sent a greeting card also to Shilpa wishing her happy marriage life.
Shetty family is under Gujarat Police investigation
It should be mentioned here that Shilpa Shetty’s father Surendra Shetty, 62, and his wife Sunanda are charged by Gujarat’s Surat police with hiring gangsters to recover Rs 80 lakh (approximately US$170,000) reportedly due to Shilpa, who had modelled for an advertisement produced by Praful Sarees in 1998. They allegedly threatened Pankaj Agarwal, director of the company producing the saris.
Ms Shilpa had done modeling for Praful Saree, but when its owner Pankaj Agrawal had failed to pay the agreed amount of Rs 2 crore to her, Shilpa’s parents–Surendra Shetty and his wife Sunanda–had given a money recovery contract to Fazloo in 2003.
As part of this contract, Fazloo had made several calls to Mr Agrawal demanding Rs 2 crore in March, 2003, and later also.
Following this, Mr Agrawal had lodged a police complaint at Umra Police station of the city on May 1, 2003. Shilpa’s parents were called to the city and arrested by the local crime branch then but were later released on bail.
Fazloo was absconding since then but was later arrested by Delhi Police in connection with other crimes. He was lodged in Tihar Jail.
He was brought in Surat in March this year by a special team of the Surat Crime Branch. City Crime Branch DCP Subhash Trivedi had at that time told media persons that Shilpa may be questioned if gangster Fazloo Rahman discloses her name in Praful Saree extortion case.
In 2003 the Surat police had informed the court that it had prima facie evidence of Shetty’s involvement in the attempt to extort the dues from Agarwal and had allegedly tape-recorded a telephone conversation between him and the complainant in this regard. Assistant Police Inspector A A Damor, from the Umra police station, Surat had told the court the police had recorded a telephone conversation between Shetty and Agarwal, in which the latter mentioned a threatening call from a gangster to settle Shilpa’s account for Rs 2 crore (US $425,000). After his arrest Shilpa’s father was interrogated by investigating official B V Ramani at Umra police station. Ramani had told reporters that during interrogation Surendra admitted to having talked to Rehman’s associate Uday Shetty alias Ashraf.
Sunanda Shetty met Modi in Gandhinagar
In 2004, Sunanda Shetty came to Gandhinagar to meet Mr. Modi and spent around 15 minutes with him. After this meeting she told waiting reporters that it was a “courtesy call.” When asked what was discussed in the meeting, Shetty said she spoke of “the beauty of Ahmedabad.” When pressed further, she said: “Other things were also discussed…I can’t be just talking about Ahmedabad alone….it is personal.”

i am unhappy about his decision to attend the reception and lately he seems to have become very fashion conscious.

What is wrong if he went to the reception? He was invited and he went there as an invited guest and not as a politician or a Gujarat CM. It is his personal life. What’s your problem Tintin if he goes there?
And you are saying, “Lately he seems to have become very fashion conscious”. I ask when was Modi not fashion conscious? Look at his colorful drycleaned and ironed kurtas. Look at his tight pajamas and fashionable sandals. Look at his clothes when he goes in to executive meetings. And look at his clothes when he visited Sabarmati Riverfront. He has always been very conscious of his image in media and part of that image are the clothes that he puts on. And I don’t see anything wrong in being fashion conscious. Again it is his personal life and it his choice whatever he wants to wear. As long as he is wearing decent clothes, why should we be worried about it? Actually I prefer our leaders to be more presentable and wearing decent clothes. Do you want our leaders to look like they have been lifted straight away from the streets and put in governments? No you don’t want it, right?
Neither you have to wear clothes like Mahatma Gandhi nor you have to look like George Fernandez with wrinkled kurtas and messy hair to work for people. You can look smart, dashing, impressive and at the same time you can work for people too.
Thanks.

Once Mukesh and Anil ambani were looking out for the expansion globally. Its when Dhirubhai was alive.
Both the brother were attending a meeting and giving a presentation to the Global investment players. that was to attract investments of global players in Reliance. While both the brothers gave the presentations, both were asked one question, what was their weight ? Ironically both the brothers were over weight. Global Investment Bankers said, since both the brothers are not taking care of them selves, how could they take care of their company and the interest of the investors… Simple if Narendra modi would not take care of himself…how would he be taking care of Gujarat…

What’s wrong with the world today ? You want a person to work like Mahaatma but live like a slum dweller. He has every right like all other citizens to enjoy life, wear whatever he wants to as long as it’s appropriate for his position especially after he has lifted the standard of living for so many in Gujarat…
