About 5010 years back, it was today when Shri Krishna left his body and took his journey to his Neejdham. There is temple called Bhalka tirth in Somnath where it is believed that Shri Krishna was hit by arrow.
At some 10 minutes distance from Shri Somnath Mahadev Jyotirlinga Mandir, the place called Golokdham Krishna Dehotsarg Tirth where Shri Krishna’s body was cremated on the bank of the river flowing here to meet the sea. The place is busy today with various activities today to mark Shri Krishna’s Dehotsarg day.
A 1008 oil lamp Maha Aarti has been organized today with Paduka pujan, Shankha naad and flute performance.
A Maha Vishnuyagna puja was performed today at 8.30 am. Shri Krishna Sharnam Mam pothi puja was held at 9.30 am. Paduka pujan is being organized at 2.27.30 pm accompanied by Shankhanad voices and flute performance in memory of Shri Krishna. The MahaVishnu Yagna will conclude at 5.30 pm after which a 1008 oil lamp Maha Aarti has been planned at 6.00 pm.
Ex-Chief Minister of Gujarat and Somnath Trust’s Chief Shri Keshubhai Patel, Gujarat’s Ex Chief Secretary and Somnath Trust’ Trustee Shri PK Lehri, Secretary of Somnath Trust Shri Prasannavadanbhai Mehta, Trustee JD Parmar etc were present during the ceremonies.
In another event, a 73-room facility ‘Lilavati guest house’ has been opened today at Somnath. The facility has been constructed through donation of Keshubhai Patel’s son Bharat Patel. The guest house has been named after Keshubhai Patel’s late wife Lilavatiben who died in an accident in Gandhinagar several years back.
