Government of Gujarat (GoG) today announced setting up the Gujarat State Aviation Company (GUJSAC) as a public sector enterprise, with a view to building infrastructure and providing trained human resources for the fast growing civil aviation sector.
Disclosing this, government spokespersons Health Minister Jay Narayan Vyas and Minister of State for Planning Saurabh Dalal described the initiative as part of a farsighted policy to set up an autonomous enterprise to meet the growing demand in the public as well as private sector. A budgetary provision has also been made on this head.
Tourism and Civil Aviation Secretary will be the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of this company, and Gujarat Infrastructure Development Board (GIDB) Managing Director A.K. Sharma and Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) Managing Director Anup Shukla will be the Directors.
GoG has applied for the registration of the new company with the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs. It will explore private sector participation through Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, incorporating experts’ opinions, looking to the specific needs of free market and globalization in the 21st Century.
The sector demands multi-disciplinary skills in providing infrastructure as well as operational and maintenance of the aviation industry. This include constructing airport terminals, airstrips, hangers, helipads, flying and gliding clubs, aero sports, training personnel for pilots, ground engineers, mechanics, wireless operators and will import necessary equipment when necessary.
