CBI Chief can be summoned by Assembly’s Privilege Committee
Gandhinagar, DeshGujarat, 18 August, 2010
CBI summoned Gujarat’s minister, police officials and cooperative bank Chairman/Director. But soon, CBI Director himself could be summoned. Gujarat Assembly’s Privilege Committee has all power to summon him if necessary.
Gujarat Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt today referred the issue of informing him late about Amit Shah’s arrest by the CBI to the Privilege Committee of Gujarat Assembly.
According to rules, the investigation agency has to inform Assembly Speaker about arrest of any sitting MLA imidiately, but in Amit Shah case, CBI Spokesperson briefed media first, and then informed the Assembly Speaker about same lately after more than five hours. This can be considered as insult of Gujarat Assembly under the rules.
BJP MLA Atmaram parmar submitted complaint before Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt, pointing out that the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) Spokesperson first informed the media about Amit Shah’s arrest, and then lately informed Assembly Speaker about the same, which is breach of rules, and therefore the matter should be investigated.
On receiving this complain parmar, Assembly Speaker Ashok Bhatt referred the issue to Privilege Committee to investigate the matter.
