Chitranjan Singh is new in charge Gujarat Police Chief
Ahmedabad, 30 November, 2010
Today was the last day of Gujarat Police Chief Shabbir Hussain Shekhadam Khandwawala’s tenure.
Khandwawala was to retire in August, but he got an extension of three months against state government’s request for six months extension. Khanwawala’s extended tenure ended today.
The state government had requested centre for further extension of his term, but the central government has refused to accept that.
The state government has yet not officially declared Khandwawala’s successor, but it is learnt that Additional DGP Chitranjan Singh
has been given his charge. Singh is director, Anti Corruption Bureau, and he is assigned in charge position of state police chief post purely on seniority basis. The post has been assigned with ‘in charge’ tag due to a pending litigation in Gujarat High Court.
Chitranjan Singh will retire in 2013 February.
