Gandhinagar based Gujarat National Law University(GNLU)’s new campus will be inaugurated today by India’s Vice President Shri M. Hamid Ansari, in presence of Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal, Chief Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Supreme Court Justice Anil Dave among others today.
The new building is titled as ‘Atalika’ avenue. The invitation card mentions that Atalika means a nest of knowledge light.
In fact the building has been constructed in such a way.
Gujarat National Law University – Atalika Avenue, is located at Knowledge Corridor, Koba, Gandhinagar over 50 acres of land donated by the State Government.
According to the original design, there were 8 Buildings to be constructed. i.e. one administrative & library Building, two academic buildings, two hostels, canteen, staff accommodation and auditorium.
The Grey Parikh Architects (GPA) was appointed as an architect & construction work was given to the Cube Constructions Engineering Limited (CCEL) after following statutory procedures.
The actual construction work began on 17 June 2009 and as of today, the administrative and library buildings, one academic bloc, a stadium are ready along with a canteen and a hostel. While the construction works of another building consisting of guest house, PG students and some staff accommodation and academic building is undergoing. Afterwards, the staff accommodation, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, amenities stores, medical centre, ATM will be built.
