Ahmedabad, 17 January 2012

May be not as speedy as China, when it comes to construction of a building, but today, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) at least showed that its team is as speedy as Chinese when it comes to demolition of a building.

Till late in the evening yesterday, a ground plus three floor building standing over 666 square meter area and known as HP house was standing tall on a corner that connects Ellis bridge and Ashram road. But then just before midnight, the AMC team started demolishing the building, and completed the task till morning on today.

According to AMC officials, the building was obstructing the traffic on crucial left turn corner that connects Ellis bridge and Ashram road. In 2005, when AMC initiated efforts to clear this construction, the owner of the building went to court against such move. The case first went on in the City civil court and later in the High court. Yesterday the court lifted stay on demolition. As soon as the court okayed demolition, the AMC official came in to action. They held a quick meeting, and it was decided that needed force must be diverted to this place and the building should be demolished before next morning.

Accordingly, a music classes operating in the basement, and godown on ground floor were told to vacate the place immediately. The AMC team started demolition at around 11.00 pm on Monday and completed the task in the morning on Tuesday.
