“Use smart phone, open your account on Twitter/Facebook and send me a Vande Mataram message”

Ahmedabad, 11 February 2012

So we are seeing greater presence, and more activities of Gujarat BJP office bearers nowadays on Twitter and Facebook, and even this credit goes to Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

According to a source in BJP, Modi in recently held BJP state executive meeting asked the office bearers to purchase smart phones and start using Facebook and Twitter.

Knowing in advance that many office bearers have no account on Twitter and Facebook, couple of computers were put stand-by in the state executive meet with persons ready to assist those who wanted to create account there itself on Twitter and Facebook.

After Shri Modi’s ‘order’ many senior partymen and ministers have created account on Twitter.

Ministr Dileepbhai Sanghani, Mangubhai Patel, Nitinbhai Patel, Fakirbhai Vaghela, Praful Patel, Anandiben Patel, Jashwantsinh Bhabhor are some of the ministers who have started using Twitter.

Chief Whip and Nadiad MLA Pankabhai Desai, MLA Varshaben Doshi, state BJP spokesperson Shri IK Jadeja, MLA Shankar Chaudhary, Surat BJP’s Purnesh Modi, Rajya Sabha MP Bharatsinh Parmar, Jitu Vaghani, Jaysukh Thesia, Dr Vallabh Kathiria, Mandhatasinh Jadeja, MP Jayshriben Patel, MLA Vallabhbhi, Ashok Bhavsar are among other partymen who have started using Twitter.

Many of the newcomers are silent on Twitter. They sometime try one or two tweets, but the communication has not been two-way.

Radhanpur MLA Shankar Chaudhary tweeted that about great response to Chief Minister’s Bavla fast, however when DeshGujarat asked him on twitter that what was different in this fast event compare to other Sadbhavana fast, he didn’t reply. Similarly Vadodara MP Balu Shukla doesn’t respond on Twitter. We asked state BJP spokesperson IK Jadeja that why stone park that he inaugurated three years back has not been made functional even today? He didn’t reply. So the newcomers aren’t using two-way communication benefit of Twitter enough.

Some newcomer BJP men on Twitter have attempted Gujarati tweet. Some have not tweeted a single line yet. Some like Jigar Inamdar, Bharat Dangar are showing good activity.

Interestingly Chief Minister Modi asked partymen to be extra active on Twitter and Facebook during his post-Sadbhavana fast closed door meeting with party office bearers of particular district.

“Modi asked, how many of you are active on Twitter or Facebook? When very few party office bearers replied positively, Shri Modi told to open an account in these social media sites and send him a message of Vande Mataram or Jay Hind,” said a BJP office bearer of south Gujarat who attended Modi’s post-fast meeting in his district.
