Photo feature: Fourth Barcamp succesfully organized in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, 28 February, 2012

So it was the fourth Barcamp organized in the city of Ahmedabad.

Having visited all four barcamps, I can clearly conclude that it’s a must visit event for any techno enthusiastic.

Let’s first describe what is barcamp.

Barcamps are mostly about technology and IT. Though other subjects are also touched, the main thrust remains over IT.

Barcamps are organized by youths, mostly a group of collegians. The invitations are sent online through emails, SMS, wiki page and nowadays also through social media. Publicity is also made using online media.

Some sponsorship(mostly from IT companies), and a venue(mostly a college) do rest of the work.

The first barcamp in Ahmedabad was organized at IIMA new campus. Netra, an Amdavadi girl, based in Mumbai was the organizer. Second barcamp was also organized in same campus, and Netra was the person at the center. The third barcamp was organized by couple of students of Entrepreneurship Development Institute(EDI) at Bhat campus. The fourth barcamp that took place on last Sunday was organized by couple of students of LD Engineering college.

Unconference model is soul of any barcamp. Those(like me and you) can stick a chit on a white board and can announce his/her lecture. At a time three/four parallel lectures go on in different rooms. Leaving a lecture halfway is fine. In one room you can be a listener while in other room you can be on stage.

Suppose you know more about Twitter, then you can start speaking on Twitter, and if you know more about Yahoomail, you can give a lecture on that subject, provided a slot is available(first come first).

This time in barcamp the most successful lecture was about building smartphone apps. Highest number of youths attended Mr. Betai’s lecture on this. Even after a lecture was over, the students continued to showed deep interest in asking the questions. The organizer had to intervene twice to end the session. This shows, what the youths prefer nowadays. Smarphone app building is way to go for most of them.

Jaydip Parikh’s colorful presentation on Digital marketing was interesting, so as Priyal’s well worked presentation on same.

Ankur confidently talked about Sun gazing and showed a water bottle charged with Sun.

Other sessions were on various interesting IT related subjects.

Barcamps in Ahmedabad don’t attract too many youths compare to other cities.

But still it’s very interesting to attend every barcamp here, because it provides an opportunity to meet techno enthusiasts.
