BRTS fare hike of Re 1 to impact only 0.4% commuters

Ahmedabad, 30 March 2012

Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited is Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation funded company set up under company act 1956 to manage, promote and operate the BRTS project. The company is functioning for more than two years. BRTS is presently operational on 45 km route with daily number of passengers of around 1.20 lakh.

As per the government notification, every year, the ticket rates are reviewed in considering the latest rates of diesel and other factors. As per the guideline, new ticket rates are implemented from 1st of April.

According to this from 1st of April there will be fare hike.

Rates of tickets ranging from Rs 3 to Rs 8 are unchanged. Those passengers who pay Rs 22 will now need to pay Rs 23. Similarly they will need to pay Rs 27 instead of Rs 26. Thus there’s an increase of 1 Re in two categories.

Presently BRTS carries 1.20 lakh passengers per day. Of them only 450 (0.4%) will be impacted by Re 1 ticket rate hike. Thus the new fare hike doesn’t impact most of the commuters.

The new rates will be effective for one year. So any hike in diesel cost till 31st of March 2013 will not add burden of fare hike till then.
