Rajkot, 25 April 2012
After 12 arrests in five days, Rajkot Police has now decided to discontinue its drive against those not carrying identity card when in public.
Recent notification issued by city police had made it compulsory for all citizens to keep valid photo identity card when in public.
12 persons were arrested in last five days for not keeping their identity card with them. Five of them were on a visit to garden, when police arrested them.
But now, the implementation of new notification has been suspended for two months. During this time, the citizens will be educated and guided to respect new rule. Also suggestions will be sought from public and various groups in this period. After two months, the notification could be entirely canceled on permanent basis, or could be continued with some modifications, the police sources said.
It is believed that city police has been directed to halt its drive by superiors in Gandhinagar.
