Tribals of Maharashtra block Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway

Hundreds of tribals from Thane district today staged a `rasta roko’ on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway to press for their demand for increased compensation for their land which has been lost in road widening work.
The roadblock lasted for more than three hours within the limits of the Kasa police station. No untoward incident was reported during the stir, police said.
The agitation, in which a large number of women took part, was held under the leadership of tribal leader R V Bhuskute.
The police rounded up nearly 100 villagers for blocking traffic on the busy highway. The agitators were demanding proper compensation and due rehabilitation of those whose land was lost in road widening in the area.
