AMC to Lay New Eastern Trunkline in Next Two Years to Tackle Waterlogging

Ahmedabad: A new trunkline is set to be laid in the eastern part of the city within the next two years with an aim to reduce waterlogging problems during the monsoon. The announcement was made after the weekly Standing Committee meeting of Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) today.

The Standing Committee Chairman, Kamlesh Patel, said AMC’s pre-monsoon preparations are largely complete, with the remaining works being expedited. The committee reviewed the progress of drainage, water disposal, and garden department projects ahead of the rainy season.

He stated that a new trunkline will be constructed to channel rainwater from Dayawan Lake to the Khari River. Once completed, the project is expected to provide a long-term solution to waterlogging issues across eastern Ahmedabad.

Patel also highlighted the improvements undertaken in the Madhumalati-Odhav area, which has in the past faced severe flooding during heavy rainfall. Earlier, waterlogging in the locality would persist for two to three days, causing major inconvenience to residents.

According to him, AMC has constructed a pumping station to improve water disposal from a nearby lake, enabling excess water to be drained more efficiently. As a result, the impact of flooding in the area is expected to be reduced by nearly 40 percent.

As per the civic body, though some waterlogging may still occur during intense rainfall, the water is unlikely to remain stagnant for extended periods as it did in previous years. DeshGujarat
