According to a statement issued by state project director of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, as many as 4,79,808 children including 2,34,302 girls and 2,45,506 boys in the age group below five were enrolled in schools across Gujarat during recently concluded 3-day-long 10th annual school enrollment drive.
According to a statement, donations of around Rs 10,53,91,466 were received during the three-day drive.
State ministers, senior IAS, IFS, Police officers, education department and sachivalaya officers visted five schools every day during three days. The children were brought to schools in processions with decorated bullock carts, camel carts, tractors, trucks part of it.
New enrolled children were given school bags, slate-pen, books, notebooks, pencils, uniform etc for free. 23,608 girls who enrolled in standard 1 in vilalges with lower ratio of female literacy were given Narmada bond under Vidhyalakshmi scheme. In all 74,466 girls were given Narmada bonds worth Rs 14,89,32,000.
Next will be the urban school enrollment drive, to be held during 28-29-30 June.
