Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today in his speech at Tagore hall briefly spoke about India’s Presidential election, and chances of PA Sangma’s victory. In presence of Sangma, Shri Modi said on Sangma’s winning chances that, “miracles happen even today.”

Shri Narendra Modi said: “Victory is not difficult for those who spend their life with Subhas Babu’s name. You can imagine, we don’t have a signle MP in Gujarat who has elected for 9 times to parliament. Sangma has been elected 9 times to parliament. He has been a minister in centre for 18 years. He has been the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, but you never hear CBI, CAG coming on his way. He is a clean leader. Remember the days when he was a Speaker in parliament, remember Sangmaji’s body language in that role, even I used to see parliament procedure with great interest. He was looking like a small innocent child. His this identity is very much there in every person’s heart. Purity of tribal was heading the parliament, and why not a tribal should also become President. I have heard 14 parties have joined Sangma, and more will join, and miracles happen even today.”

After the function, Shri Modi left for another function, while Shri Sangma addressed a press conference just outside the hall. When asked about his victory chances, Shri Sangma replied: “This election is so important. Each political party is divided. NDA is divided, UPA is divided, left is divided in Kerala and Bengal. Today’s newspaper headline says that Student Federation of India (SFI) which is the students wing of CPI(M) is very much against party’s decision to support Pranab Mukherjee. That’s making this election very interesting and very tough. Congress is not having a walk over, not at all.”

Sangma also said, “yesterday night Shri Jethmalani called me on phone and said Pranabda is traveling in two-three states per day, and you are not doing that. To this I replied that I am confident and not in panicky position like Congress. That is the answer.”

Shri Sangma said, “problem of Maoism, problem of insurgency, problem of underground are all tribal related problems. Tribal president can help government in bringing these people to the national mainstream.”

“I don’t believe in Pranab’s position that the President only signs. India should not have a president who is blind, deaf, dumb. We want a thinking president. We want a functioning president. Today India is passing through a worst crisis ever,” he said.

Sangma appealed all tribal, SC, OBC and minority MLAs and MPs to vote for him. He said, “I want to appeal to all tribal MLAs and MPs to vote for a fellow tribal, no matter to which political parties they belong to. Also I appeal to Dalit MLAs and MPs, OBCs, minorities. Because when we demanded schedule caste president Mr.KR Narayan, all of us fought together. SCs, STs, OBCs, and minorities. Today as tribal we expect a same support from the Dalits, OBCs, and from minorities.”
