Extension in MNAREGA limit, increase in labour budget, more financial aid to Gujarat:Jairam Ramesh (Video)

Speaking to media persons after meeting the Chief Minister of Gujarat on drought proofing issue, union Rural development minister Jairam Ramesh told media persons that the state government had sought emergency relief of Rs 480 crore under Gramin drinking water programme, which will be satisfied in one to one and half month period.
Ramesh said, MNAREGA scheme provides employment for maximum period of 100 days to a person, but the centre has taken a decision to extend the limit to 150 days in drought affected areas, for which an amount of Rs 320 crore will be released.
Ramesh said, the Chief Minister was told that already approved labour budget should be increased in drought affected districts, and additional labour budget of around 25-30% will be contributed by centre as per the state’s demand.
Ramesh said the state government has been asked to resubmit the memorandum in two parts; one part on emergency needs and another part for long term measures. He said the state govt will resubmit the draft accordingly, on which the committee of ministers will take decision.
