Ahmedabad, 22 November 2012
It’s depressing time for the Gujarat Congress.
As soon as the first official, and second unofficial list of party’s candidates came out, the revolt is brewing in across the state.
The second unofficial list mentions union minister Tushar Chaudhary’s brother Tejas Chaudhary as candidate on Mangrol seat. In reaction to this the party workers burnt Tushar Chaudhary and other local Congress leaders in effigy.
In Mandvi, the local Taluka Panchayat President and other Congress leaders offered resignation against selection of Congress candidate.
Similar anger was seen in Savarkundla where party workers were vocal in opposing possible ticket allotment to a particular person.
It is learnt that Surendranagar district Congress president Bhaljibhai Solanki has resigned from his post. The news is still unconfirmed however at present.
In Jamnagar, Poonamben Madam has submitted resignation from primary membership of Congress party to join the BJP.
Anand district Congress Vice President and Petlad Congress president have also submitted their resignations.
In Shehra, local Congress workers protested against Congress office against party’s decision to allot the seat to NCP.
In Kalol, a group of Congress workers protested against ticket allotment to Baldev Thakor. They gathered in a group and protested the decision in public. A group of party workers also rushed to Gujarat Congress headquarter in protest.
In Olpad, the Congress workers opposed party’s move to give ticket to Jayeshbhai.
In Junagadg, 24 councillors have threatened resignations if deputy mayor Kotecha is not given ticket.
Bigger trouble
In Ahmedabad, City Congress General Secretary Gunvant Makwana has resigned from his post. Similarly Khemchand solanki has resigned from the post of city unit Vice President. But the even bigger blow is resignation of Girish Parmar, Vice President of Gujarat Congress and Jayantilal Pamar, Spokesperson of Gujarat Congress. All these leaders have resigned protesting ticket allotment to Shailesh Parmar on Danilimda seat which is reserved for SC. Jayantilal and others are of opinion that Shailesh is not real Dalit.
Some Congress leaders are still waiting for official declaration of second list.
