Surat to get 18 new bridges this year

The city of Surat which is also known as the city of flyovers in Gujarat is at present witnessing the construction work of 24 bridges. Of them 18 are likely to be ready by the end of this year. At least three flyover bridges are likely to be completed before the time prescribed in tender. They are Udhana-Magdalla main road based Sosio circle flyover bridge, Star bazar junction flyover bridge and Bhatar junction flyover bridge.
Construction of 24 bridges is going on in the city at a cost of around Rs 1200 crore. The task will continue during the months of monsoon too.
Anjana railway over bridge is not completed because two pillars in railway area could not be constructed due to pending permission from railway for last three years. The bridge is likely to be completed by end of next month.
Completion of cable stayed bridge connecting Athwa and Adajan will take at least one year time. The SMC had approved this bridge at a cost of Rs 143 crore in October 2010, and contractor had to complete this bridge in 30 months(before last April). The main task of cable work is pending yet.
