Timid response to Rakesh Tikait’s Gujarat tour on the first day

Palanpur: Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait today kicked off his two-day tour of Gujarat for campaign against the three Central farm laws. However contrary to hype, Tikait actually received timid response. His two scheduled programmes at Ambaji and Palanpur today could see presence of only around 100 odd persons including lot of onlookers on roadside.

Ahead of his entry in Gujarat, Tikait had showed his passport to media persons and claimed that the Gujarat government would not allow him to enter the State, though he is Indian citizen. However contrary to his apprehensions, the BJP ruled government did’t find his visit too important and smoothly allowed him entry through interstate check post of Abu Road – Ambaji. The State government also arranged police piloting for his convoy. Tikait performed puja at Ambaji temple and addressed ‘Kisan Abhivadan’ from open vehicle along with former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankersinh Vaghela. Around 100-odd crowd at this ‘Kisan Abhivadan’ was largely consisting onlookers on the road.

Same was witnessed in Palanpur, the second destination of Tikait where ‘Kisan Samvad’ programme was organised in the ground opposite Surmandir cinema. The presence was around 100 to 200 personsincluding police men and media persons. Tikait addressed this small crowd from open vehicle.

Tikait also visited Unjha Umiya Mandir in the evening. He is scheduled to deliver address at three places in Central and South Gujarat including Ankleshwar – Valiya cross roads, Kosamba and Bardoli on the second and the last day of his two-day Gujarat visit.

Tikait when travelled to Gujarat border was accompanied by Congress leader Lalji Desai and Banaskantha Congress MLA Geniben Thakor.

Earlier, on two occasions, ‘Bharat Bandh’ strike call given by Tikait and supporting organizations including main opposition Congress party had failed to evoke any response in Gujarat.
