Gujarat govt and Mazgaon Dock ink MoU for submarine tourism in Dwarka
December 29, 2023
Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government is embarking on a unique submarine tourism project in collaboration with Mazgaon Dock Limited (MDL). The endeavor aims to explore the marine life around Bet Dwarka and Shivrajpur Beach through a submarine.
The state government and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard. Speaking about the development, Saurabh Pardhi, the Managing Director of Gujarat Tourism, stated that Dwarka has one of the highest tourist footfalls in the state, and Shivrajpur Beach is also Blue Flag certified. To provide a unique and different experience for tourists, the government has entered into an MoU with Mazagon Dock. According to the agreement, tourists will be shown the aquatic marine life approximately 100 meters below the sea with the help of a submarine.
Pardhi emphasized that the focus is on developing it as a tourism experience only, as the submerged Dwarka is an archaeological topic.
“All the surveys were conducted by the National Institute of Oceanography and Mazagon Dock, and the project is proceeding after a feasibility report. We are not developing anything underwater; instead, we will showcase the natural life under the sea via a submarine. We expect this project to be functional by the end of next year,” he added.
The project is currently in the preliminary stage, and budget details will be decided as it progresses further, according to officials. DeshGujarat
