Speculations rife over another former Congress MLA joining BJP; CR Patil visits his home

Amreli: Speculations are rife that former Rajula MLA of Congress party Ambrish Der may join the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The State BJP chief CR Patil today visited Der’s Science City area based apartment in Ahmedabad and held a meeting with him. However Der’s aides said Patil’s visit only was about inquiring health of Ambrish Der’s mother.

Der had been previously also with the BJP once upon a time. Der who hails from the Ahir community lost the Gujarat assembly election in 2022 by a margin of over 10,000 votes. State BJP chief CR Patil had publicly invited Der to join BJP. There’s no word regarding this from either the BJP or Der himself. 

Der’s guide in the party is Porbandar MLA Arjun Modhwadia, a former State Congress president. Recently speculations were rife about the possibility of Modhwadia joining the BJP. However, Modhwadia had refuted such speculations. Both Modhwadia and Der had openly criticized Congress leadership’s decision to stay away from Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir’s Pran Pratishtha function disrespecting the invitation for the same. Meanwhile, in a function held at Surat, the BJP claimed 700 cadres and leaders of Congress and Aam Armi Party (AAP) today joined BJP. State BJP chief CR Patil offered saffron scarves and caps to those joining BJP in this function.
