CM inaugurates Gujarat Semiconnect Conference 2024 at Mahatma Mandir

Gandhinagar: Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today inaugurated the Gujarat Semiconnect Conference 2024 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar. The conference, organized by the Gujarat Government’s Science and Technology Department, focused on the state’s growth in the semiconductor sector.

Through the ‘Gujarat Semiconnect Conference 2024’, the government aimed to bring together global leaders in the semiconductor manufacturing sector and local companies from Gujarat and India, thereby strengthening the local semiconductor supply chain ecosystem.

The conference discussed various aspects of the semiconductor industry, such as manufacturing, supply chain management, and research and innovation. This is expected to benefit all stakeholders and help companies form mutual strategic partnerships.

During the conference, CM Patel emphasized Gujarat’s commitment to supporting the semiconductor sector. He highlighted that three major projects will be established in Gujarat.

Tata Electronics is setting up a Rs. 91,000 crore semiconductor-chip manufacturing project in Dholera. US-based Micron Technologies is investing Rs. 22,516 crore in a semiconductor assembly unit at Sanand GIDC. Murugappa Group’s CG Power Company is also setting up an assembly testing, marking, and packaging unit at Sanand, costing Rs. 7,600 crore.

The Gujarat government has allocated land to these companies to facilitate their projects. Tata Electronics received 160 acres in Dholera, CG Power got 28 acres, and Micron was allotted 93 acres of land.

CM, while addressing the event, said, “Under the guidance of global leader and country’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Gujarat and the entire country are touching new heights of development in almost every sector. The importance of semiconductors, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and drone technology has also been focused on. In this series, ‘Gujarat Semiconnect Conference’ is the right job at the right time. I believe this.”

Gursharan Singh, SVP of Global Assembly and Test Operations at Micron Technology, highlighted the key infrastructure needs for India to become a semiconductor hub. He stressed the need for civic infrastructure in Sanand, including dormitories, housing for employees, high-speed rail connectivity, smooth roads, public transport, luxury hotels, an international school, and a hospital near the semiconductor facilities in Sanand and Dholera. Additionally, he pointed out the necessity of direct flight connections between Ahmedabad and established semiconductor nations like Taiwan, Korea, and Japan to attract new investments. DeshGujarat
