Gujarat CM reiterates commitment to ‘zero tolerance against corruption’

Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel emphasized that government officials, including district collectors and district development officers (DDOs), must act as conduits to deliver efficient services, amenities, and welfare schemes to the public. Speaking at the inaugural session of a one-day joint conference of district collectors and DDOs in Gandhinagar, the CM highlighted the importance of fulfilling duties with responsibility and dedication.
The event was attended by Minister of Rural Development Raghavji Patel, State Panchayat Minister Bachubhai Khabad, and the CM’s Chief Principal Advisor Dr. Hasmukh Adhia. Patel stressed that public servants have a dual responsibility to serve citizens and resolve their grievances promptly. He urged district officials to strengthen public outreach and conduct regular field visits to understand and address issues firsthand, ensuring good governance.
The CM called for a robust mechanism at the district level for the swift resolution of public issues and to ensure appropriate responses to grievances from higher authorities to ordinary citizens. He emphasized creating a system so efficient that citizens would not need to escalate their concerns to the ‘Swagat’ grievance redressal platform.
He reiterated the state’s commitment to “zero tolerance against corruption,” urging officials to eliminate any practices hindering Gujarat’s global development aspirations.
Patel also instructed officials to avoid misinterpretation of government rules and circulars at the district level, urging them to communicate clear reasons if any action cannot be taken as per regulations. He reminded them that while administrative systems are permanent, individuals and their positions are not, encouraging officials to prioritize transparency and integrity in their service.
Highlighting Gujarat’s role as a model of growth and development, Patel lauded the contributions of district officials in achieving this status and outlined a roadmap for a developed Gujarat by 2047, aligning with the vision of a developed India. He proposed holding similar collector-DDO conferences at the district level to enhance collaboration and familiarize state officials with district-level development progress.
The conference reviewed the implementation of key public-oriented schemes, including Nirmal Gujarat 2.0, Nal Se Jal, the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Mukt Bijli Yojana, PMJAY, and the PM Poshan Yojana. Chief Secretary Raj Kumar emphasized the importance of achieving the objectives of these schemes over mere statistical success, ensuring quality execution to strengthen public trust in the government.
