Gujarat govt changes birth & death registration rules: New standardized formats for names, dates, addresses notified

Gandhinagar: The Gujarat government has amended the Gujarat Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2018, under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. The changes, approved by the Central Government, aim to streamline registration processes and ensure uniformity in documentation.
Key amendments include standardized formats for names, dates, and addresses in official forms, mandatory electronic issuance of birth and death certificates, and revised late registration fees.
As per the official gazette, the state government has amended the Gujarat Registration of Births and Deaths Rules, 2018, introducing new provisions under Rule 5 to standardize entries in official records. Under the Gujarat Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Rules, 2025, names must be recorded in the format of first name, middle name, and last name, with no abbreviations. Dates must follow the dd-mm-yyyy format, ensuring uniformity across documents. Additionally, addresses must include complete details such as State or Union Territory, District, Sub-district, Town or Village, Ward number (if applicable), Locality, House number, and PIN Code.
Furthermore, provisions for delayed registrations, updated form structures, and the introduction of an appeal mechanism under Section 25A have been incorporated.
The amended rules, titled the Gujarat Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Rules, 2025, come into effect upon publication in the Official Gazette which was done on February 27th. DeshGujarat
