Heatwave Conditions Persist in Gujarat; IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Next 5 Days

Ahmedabad: Heatwave conditions are set to intensify across Gujarat over the next five days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning that maximum temperatures could reach between 41°C and 45°C in several parts of the state.
According to the IMD’s midday weather bulletin issued today, dry weather is likely to prevail across Gujarat, Saurashtra-Kutch, Diu, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli till May 17. The department has forecast a gradual rise of 2-3°C in maximum temperatures during the next five days before a slight fall thereafter.
The IMD has issued heatwave warnings for several districts over the coming days. On May 10, heatwave conditions are very likely in Banaskantha, Patan, Vadodara and Surat districts, along with Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Amreli, Gir Somnath and Kutch in Saurashtra-Kutch, besides Diu.
From May 11 onwards, the heatwave is expected to expand to Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Anand and Dwarka districts. The warning is likely to continue till May 15 in parts of North Gujarat, Central Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch.
Heatwave conditions were recorded at isolated places in Surat district during the last 24 hours, while Kandla Airport in Kutch registered the highest maximum temperature in the region at 44.4°C. Temperatures remained above normal to appreciably above normal across parts of South Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch.
For Ahmedabad city and surrounding areas, the weather department has forecast mainly clear skies, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 44°C by Sunday.
The IMD has advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to heat, stay hydrated, and wear light-coloured cotton clothing. Vulnerable groups, including infants, elderly people, and those with chronic illnesses, have been urged to take extra precautions during the ongoing heatwave spell. DeshGujarat
