Ahmedabad: A city sessions court on Saturday sentenced three men to eight years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on each after convicting them in a beef sale case.
According to case records, Samir Sheikh, Zafarkhan Pathan and Mohamed Azmal Sheikh were caught allegedly selling beef in Ahmedabad’s Rakhial area on May 4, 2019. During the operation, police seized around 250 kg of beef from their possession.
Two other accused, Kalam Hussain Qureshi and Zishan Qureshi, were also booked for allegedly assisting in the offence. The accused were charged under provisions of the Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations (GPMC) Act, and relevant sections of the IPC.
In its order, the court observed that the offence was anti-social in nature and ruled out any possibility of granting probation. The court stated that the act was neither committed in a moment of passion nor under provocation, but was allegedly carried out deliberately for monetary gain. DeshGujarat
